Design is what I do to address the inherent complexities of communication and behavior. I practice design because I believe that better communication can profoundly enhance human relationships, creating opportunities for constructive behavior and positive change.
Through a human–centered approach, my aim is to facilitate interactions among people, as well as between people and the artifacts or systems they create. Within the parameters of business objectives and technical capability, I act as the advocate for end–users, serving the client by ensuring that their innovative product or service primarily satisfies the goals and desires of the people who will actually use it. Ultimately, my professional contribution helps ensure that a product or service is at once viable, feasible and desirable.
I work with clients to strategically plan and structure innovation. I learn about a project’s domain and perform user research to get to know the intended audience: knowledge and findings lead to an information organization model that fits the way people in the audience actually think and communicate.
I transform strategy into a conceptual framework for orchestrating how users interact with a product or service, creating experiences that are meaningful, empowering and satisfying.
I materialize the information structure and interaction framework into a visible, tangible interface that supports both usability and delight.
Fundamentally, drawing is the defining practice of my profession and writing is its indispensable complement. Empathy, listening and a love of language have proven to be key in a humanistic domain like design.
